Scratch & Dent Clappers (12 inch)
Scratch & Dent Clappers (12 inch)
What is a scratch & dent clapper? This batch of clappers are in slightly less than perfect condition. For some, the Cotton & Bourbon branded logo burned a little unevenly. Other clappers might have a small crack, or there could be a small natural flaw in the red oak. This will not impact the function of the clapper; it’ll still help your seams lay flay, but they wouldn’t pass my standard quality assurance review. For this reason - they are greatly discounted. I started by using these imperfect extras in my studio, but the box of imperfect clappers is getting full, so I’m selling the scratch & dent clappers! See photos for the examples of these imperfections.
What is a clapper? My seams have never been flatter!
A tailor’s clapper is used to achieve flat, crisp seams. This tool originated in the garment sewing space, but it is so useful for quilters! After pressing the seam, place the flat bottom of the clapper on top of the hot seam. As it cools, the wood absorbs the heat and steam, and the weight of the clapper leaves the seam nice and flat! A clapper works on any normal flat ironing surface or with a wool pressing mat.
This clapper is made from unfinished red oak hardwood; it has rounded top edges and routed grooves on each side for an easy grip. The 12 inch length is made specifically for quilters, and each clapper is handmade from start to finish by me!
Clapper size / weight: 12 x 1.5 x 1.5 inches / 10 oz.
